I met this delightful Golden Retriever at the Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Halloween Spook-tacular last weekend. I was having a nice chat with Pamela Begal, the editor of San Diego Animal’s Magazine, and he was just chilling out under a table making cute faces. So I snapped quite a few photos of him. I love how his lip would get stuck when he was thoughtful.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Howloween Spooktacular!

Helen Woodward has this really fun event every year, the Halloween Spooktacular, a walk to raise funds, and a costume party. Tons of pooches all dressed up in costumes. Here’s a sampling of photos from the day…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mama’s Boy

I’ve been busy doing some painting this week, turning out a bunch of “heart dog” paintings, getting ready for a show next week. It’s a fundraiser for my heart dog, Borias, who needs expensive surgery for a bulging disk. I’ve been taking a lot of photos of him lately. He’s just so cute! 

 

 

 

 

Dogs Rule Day!

Today being International Dogs Rule Day, I wanted to do something that my dog would enjoy. So I took him on what might be his last jaunt along Carlsbad State beach for while. (He needs surgery for a bulging disk asap).  He loves that walk, since there’s a lot of squirrels, and it’s just fun for him. He loves the beach. Even though we were up on the walkway high above the ocean, he can smell sea water a mile away. 

As usual, there’s quite a few dogs walking there, too. So here’s some photos in honor of the day.

These two little cuties just adored my dog. Look out double trouble!

Every year, around Halloween,it’s a tradition that my dog carry around a severed hand ha ha! Interesting reactions from people though…like “aww how cuuute!” and “isn’t that sweet”. 

Dogless at the dog park

So what’s a gal to do while her trusty Shepherd is getting an MRI, and will be out like a light for a few hours? Well, I went to his favorite park, Balboa Park with my trusty camera. I thought it would be a good place to send good vibes to him while he was under. 

Boy, it sure is weird being dogless, when you have a constant companion as I do, being that Borias is my Assistance dog. I find myself muttering things out loud, as if he were there. I feel naked without my dog…

I went to the dog park for a bit. The light was harsh, being just about noon, but I think I got a few cute shots. Love the white German Shepherd with the huge mouthful. Another big mouth GSD ha ha.   

 

 

 

 

Goofin’ around at Guajome Park

Well, I didn’t intend to have two posts back to back with photos of my boy, but I just had to share the ones I took today. Also tying in with “Mr Mouth”…Borias barks a LOT. I swear he makes the most hilarious faces when he does. So I snapped away. He looks kinda vicious here! But he’s just barking. Loudly.

 

 

 

 

 

Such a goofball. He found this stick, complete with pine cones still attached, and I had a hard time keeping the camera still cuz I was laughing so hard!

 

 

 

 

 

I think this is one of my favorites. Just love it when the lip gets hung up!

 

Mr. Mouth

There are so many photos of my dog where he has something in his mouth, I thought I would devote a post to that! Balls, frisbees, sticks…pine cones and water bottles. Palm fronds! He’ll make a toy out of just about anything. As you can see by this first picture, he started young. It’s not the best pic, but one of the few I have of him as a pup, in our first few weeks together…

The rest is history…

 

 

 

 

 

 

Told ya. Palm fronds! And in honor of October, and the Halloween month, there’s a rare posed photo at the Walk for the Animals at Helen Woodward Animal Center. Every October, I also have Borias carry around a severed hand like that. Gets a lot of laughs!

Adams Ave Street Fair

So I thought I would spend my Saturday afternoon at the Adams Ave Street fair, in one of my favorite parts of town, AbNormal Heights. Thought it would be a great photo op, and I was right. Tons of dogs! And even more people, which made taking shots a little challenging. Here’s some of my favorites from the day.

Harbor Days

Here’s some shots that I took today at the Oceanside Harbor Days. Didn’t have anything else to do today, so thought I would go down there awhile with camera in tow. The crowds were pretty hard to deal with, especially with a dog. It got very thick in places. They had the pirate theme going again, it must be a permanent thing now. Fun to see those folks dress up and have a great time. They get so into it, and I love the way they talk. It’s nice to be called “miss”, instead of “ma’am”!
